Yellow Roses
from Out With Lanterns, a daily poetry practice
I bought myself yellow grocery store roses in an effort to lift my spirits. They say yellow roses signify friendship. I am still trying to be my own friend. It is important, in this relationship, to recall that to not feel included from the start is hard, that self-isolation is understandable, that a small dose of sad-madness can also be a gift. Without it, no intense interiority, no disappearing into poems, no search in the grocery’s floral section, for solace.

“It is important, in this relationship, to recall
that to not feel included from the start is hard,
that self-isolation is understandable…” You did it again, Julie. Love
I think you are so amazing.
