When You Go
from Out With Lanterns, a daily poetry practice
It’s so easy to forget– None of us are here to stay. This body, this living/breathing business is all temporary. So, breathe. Really inhale to the bottom of your lungs. Marvel at your body, its signals. Ask it, what do you need? Live. Give your body pleasure– food, sex, softness, rest, laughter. Run until you’re out of breath and you can hear your heartbeat. Look up into the night sky– Feel your body pulling towards the fullest moon and close your eyes. Go deep, back to that sparkly soul you came with, because it’s the only thing you'll take with you when you go.

This is sooooo god! So true, so insightful, so comforting, so wise!
"Go deep, back to that sparkly soul you came with, because it’s the only thing you'll take with you when you go." SO good. When I take Harriet out to pee before I go to bed tonight, I will look at the sky and the stars and the moon like always do, but I will also do this poem. Thank you Julie Barton.
