Why does it feel so thrilling when you spy beauty in the rows of second hand dressers and shelves? I was once glorious, it whispers, before this blasphemous water stain, before decades of neglect. Does anyone else see its ornate legs, curved front, drawers divided and lined with purple velvet? So much potential, but so much work. Disrepair is a word with the solution built right in. You leave the thrift shop, return the next morning, hoping it’s still there. It is. You’re not giving up yet. You both have potential. You could both turn out beautiful.
