Recklessly Towards Joy
from Out With Lanterns
The sparrows race over low grasses, dive bomb for bugs then lift straight skyward. I watch them as we all walk, as I lean into you. When we reach the madrone tree, I say something about wanting to remember this time forever, knowing that this is about as good as it gets, sun reflecting golden water, grown children laughing paces ahead of us. It’s the sparrows I feel, honoring our mutual lifts, a crescendo of a life not always easy but sometimes barreling recklessly towards joy.
My friend Julia Fehrenbacher has an absolutely stunning, uplifting new poetry book out now. If you’re looking for a gift for yourself or someone else, this is a gorgeous collection that will leave you feeling hope, joy, and wonder. You can buy it here.
