Praising Paradox
from Out With Lanterns, a daily poetry practice
Today as my friend spoke, the sun blazed through a window behind him the same moment sheets of rain poured down. The beauty left me unable to focus on his words, because contradiction and complexity occur in nature too. See? Sun and rain, boredom and excitement, neglect and ecstacy, grief and relief. He paused his story, waiting for my attention to return to him. I explained, pointed at the window, but he did not turn around.

This is like an entire chapter, or maybe even two, of a book said in a short few sentences. Beautiful.
I love this one. The contradictions of nature explain all of humanity.
