Oh, Day

from Out With Lanterns, a daily poetry practice

What did you do that for? 
You came in all soft and easy–
golden sunrise, routine dog walk,
a few chores, raisins and yogurt,
then my heart got walloped 
for no good reason, none. 
Left with that awful sourness–
walked around looking 
like I did just hours before 
but feeling so different. 
So scared. Sacred scared. 
I know, Day. I know. 
The only constant is change. 
But today’s only solace came
remembering that this feeling is
not permanent. This will not 
last forever. Goodnight. And please
don’t try that again tomorrow.
