Nose Dive
from Out With Lanterns, a daily poetry practice
My plane crash dreams usually involve me standing solidly on earth, watching horrified as a 747 comes barreling down. But last night I was on the plane, and worse, unbuckled. When the plane pitched violently, I smashed into the reading lights and call buttons. Then falling again, I shot across the fuselage. Merciful waking came before the crash: 4AM. I’d sweat through my pajamas. Changes are coming, and I am unprepared. I’d like to remind my subconscious: I already know. No need for the dramatics.

Stunning. And horrifying.
