I Don't Know Much, But
from Out With Lanterns
I don’t know much, but I do know that the best cure for a bad day is a good deed, and that it’s not morbid to remember we all die. I like to remember I’m going to die, because then I spend the day doing what brings me joy. I spent most of today breaking and replanting succulents in my garden. Did you know you can tear off a succulent’s arm and put it in soil and it’ll grow a new succulent? I imagine they’re part alien, part lizard, less human, and I could learn a few things from the hen and chicks I ravaged today. A few people I know just died–out of the blue, too quick, and a few more are sick with cancer, and I don’t know much, but I know that I won’t regret the day I spent futzing around my garden, multiplying succulents and listening to birds while the dog lay in the sun.
