Going Lightly
from Out With Lanterns, a daily poetry practice
All the things I couldn’t live without, I don’t need ‘em now. -Olivia Dean, "Lady Lady" When I get stuck, need to reinvent, I try paring down. Snakes and lizards shed. Rockets drop engines. So I’ll cut the poem, slash the pages, lighten my bag, halve my drawers. When I have and carry less, when I go lightly, I remember the delicate art of keeping very little so I can create more.

Julie!!! The hugest smile formed on my face when reading this!!! So good and so true!
Love this, Julie. It seems that as I get older, I want less and less "stuff". I Iove the way the action flows through this poem and it gathers my courage to keep paring! Thank you!
